Radiator Installations

Whether you’re adding a radiator to a new room, replacing an ageing or inefficient radiator, or extending your heating system, AG Heating provides a full design-and-fit service. We survey your property, calculate the heat loss in each room, select the right radiator size and type, and complete the installation to the highest standard — leaving you with a perfectly balanced system that keeps every room warm.

A radiator installation includes:

  • Room heat loss calculation and sizing survey
  • Radiator selection matched to room requirements and décor
  • Supply and installation of radiator, valves, and thermostatic radiator valve (TRV) where needed
  • Pipework connection and secure bracket installation
  • Bleeding, balancing, and pressure testing
  • System flushed and balanced for optimum efficiency
  • Radiator fully commissioned and handover guidance provided
  • System inhibitor added to prevent corrosion long-term

Most radiator installations are completed within one to two days depending on the number of radiators and the complexity of the pipework. Our engineer will confirm the expected duration when you book.

Do You Need a New Radiator?

A new radiator installation or replacement is worth considering when one or more of the following apply:

✅ Your radiator is cold at the top or middle while the bottom is hot (trapped air)

✅ Radiator is leaking from valves, joints, or the body itself

✅ Radiator won’t respond to the thermostat or TRV adjustment

✅ Visible corrosion, rust, or pinhole leaks in the radiator

✅ A room stays cold even though other radiators are hot

✅ You’re adding a new room or extending and need an additional radiator

Not every situation requires a full replacement. If bleeding and balancing is all that’s needed, we’ll tell you honestly and carry it out at a fair price — no unnecessary upselling.

Common Signs Your Radiators Need Attention

These are the most common symptoms our customers report before calling us for a radiator repair or replacement:

  • Cold spots at the top or bottom of the radiator while other parts are hot
  • Leaking from radiator valves, joints, or the radiator body itself
  • Banging, gurgling, or whistling noises from inside the radiator
  • Radiator stuck cold while others around it are heating up normally
  • Visible rust, corrosion, or discolouration on the radiator surface
  • Thermostatic valve (TRV) no longer adjusting temperature properly
  • Radiator constantly needs bleeding or loses pressure quickly

If you’re experiencing any of these issues with a radiator, call us and we’ll diagnose and fix the problem quickly — with 24/7 availability for emergencies.

Radiators — Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a radiator installation take?

Most radiator installations take between four hours and one day depending on whether it’s a single radiator or multiple radiators, and how accessible your pipework is. Adding a radiator to an existing system is often quicker than a replacement. We’ll confirm the expected duration when you book.

How much does it cost to install a new radiator?

Cost depends on the radiator size, type (standard, designer, or smart), and the work involved in fitting it. We provide a clear, fixed quote after assessing your property — so you know exactly what you’re paying before any work begins. No hidden charges.

My radiator is cold at the top — what does that mean?

A radiator that’s cold at the top while the bottom is hot usually means air is trapped inside. This is easily fixed by bleeding the radiator with a bleed key. If bleeding doesn’t solve it, there may be a circulation or balancing issue in your system. We can diagnose and fix it quickly.

My radiator is cold at the bottom — what’s the cause?

A cold bottom suggests sludge or debris has accumulated inside the radiator, blocking water flow. This is common in older systems and can usually be resolved by flushing the radiator or, if needed, powerflushing the entire system. In some cases, a replacement may be more cost-effective. We’ll advise you honestly.

Do I need a Gas Safe engineer to fit a radiator?

Radiator fitting itself doesn’t require Gas Safe registration — only work on gas pipework and boiler safety controls does. However, AG Heating’s engineer is Gas Safe registered, which means you benefit from our expertise and compliance with all current regulations and best practice. We handle the job safely and professionally every time.

Can you add a radiator to an existing system?

Yes — we can add a radiator to your existing system to heat a new room or extension. We’ll assess whether your boiler has enough capacity, balance the system to distribute heat fairly, and ensure the new radiator is sized correctly for the room. Most systems can accommodate at least one additional radiator without issues.

Do you cover emergency radiator repairs?

Yes — AG Heating provides 24/7 emergency callouts for radiator problems including leaks, cold radiators, and valve failures. If your radiator stops working or is leaking, call us and we’ll get to you as quickly as possible, day or night, to get you warm again.
